Description

Children thrive when teachers create nurturing, well-managed classrooms that provide frequent shared opportunities to explore, grow and develop. Teachers who are responsive to children’s needs and interests promote each child’s social, emotional and cognitive development. This workshop looks closely at specific teaching behaviors that help children develop warm, supportive relationships, experience enjoyment and excitement about learning, feel comfortable in the classroom and experience appropriate levels of autonomy or independence. Participants also explore classroom strategies that support the development of each child’s social competence.

 Participants learn to:
• Identify the developmental sequence and benchmarks of children’s social/emotional competencies
• Identify strategies to use in the classroom that build each child’s social competence
• Develop a plan
